We’re looking forward to welcoming Melissa Zappelli for an afternoon exploring the wonderful world of wildflower photography.

Whether you’re already passionate about photographing nature or simply enjoy seeing beautiful images and picking up new ideas, Melissa’s presentation promises to be both interesting and inspiring.

From Melissa:

“My name is Melissa Zappelli and I am a self-taught nature photographer and storyteller.  I photograph a broad range of subjects at all scales however wildflowers have always been inspirational.  The very first time I used a camera was to photograph native orchids in natural light using my Dad’s Pentax K1000 film camera in the 1980’s.  In many ways my life has come full circle as I now live in the forest on a rural property near Northcliffe and spend much of my spare time photographing plants.

My home is surrounded by one of the most diverse botanical landscapes on the planet.  Many of these plants display amazing pollination mechanisms and have developed fascinating evolutionary adaptations.  I have always been interested in ecological systems, particularly interactions between landscape, plants, animals and humans.  These points of connection are where I find much of my inspiration.

I love the challenge of capturing tiny moments with images and words, and over time have realised that the double weave of photography and storytelling is a powerful form of creative expression. My presentation will touch on all these aspects woven through the lens of my own experiences and illustrated with some of my favourite botanical images. My talk will finish with a series of plant photography tips and time to answer any questions”.
